![]() ![]() for example, maybe if he gave a perspective of how adults sometimes hide their emotions, or how others dont act how they should, literally anything else. if the author somehow expanded on this instead of focusing on irrelevent issues and side plots, the book might sense. main characters friends laugh about it, nobody seems to be talking about the death, and it is overall taken very lightly. the same friend's brother DIES from a lightning strike within the first few chapters, and nobody cares. the main characters best friend is literally racist, and nobody does anything about it. overuse of stereotypes, which i believe stems from some sort of suppressed racist ideology of the author, makes the book offensive and adds onto the pile of problems that have no solution. author had no idea how immature and simple middle school generally is. 7th graders having physical fights, using vulgar slang and fighting with everyone in sight. ![]() it is so far from any reality that it is almost impossible to find any value in it. the amount of drama in this book, the amount of problems, is ASTOUNDING. this book would work if it was simply about soccer, but the author tried to incorporate aspects that he seems to have little to no knowledge on. to think of it, not one character has had realistic reactions to life changing events death of a loved one, changing schools, fights, etc. there is an unnecessary amount of unresolved problems, and it is full of apathetic characters. TLDR boring, unrealistic, 99% of the relationships in this book are unhealthy or make no sense, there is an excessive amount of problems that are never solved, aka plot holes, it progresses very slowly, the ending feels rushed, and the portrayal of minorities and middle schoolers is just wrong.įirst of all, all these 'important' events happened in the last 100 or so pages, just to further your understanding of how slowly this book progresses and how rushed the ending is. i havent finished it yet, but i read a synopsis of the ending and main events on wikipedia Our class has been reading this book for about a month now, and i have to say that it really isnt worth your time. ![]()
